I AM THE RICH YOUNG RULER The following verses follow Jesus invitation to the Rich Young Ruler to walk away from his earthly possessions and join the disciples. The disciples had left everything and made Jesus #1 but this man refused to. He had a lot of good things going, and Jesus was likely to interfere. After he declined Jesus invitation..... Mark 10:23-25 Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!” The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again, “Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” Most of the time, we quickly dismiss this passage as not applicable to us. Im not rich, we think. As I sit in one of the poorest countries in Central America this morning, where most people live on less than $2 / day, I beg you to reconsider the passage. If instead of comparing to the people you know that are wealthy, you instead compare your situation to billions across the globe, you will see YOU ARE RICH. You and I ARE the Rich Young Ruler. Weve got good stuff going and Jesus is likely to interfere. When Jesus says follow me, that means He leads and you follow. Its an invitation. I notice that Jesus didnt beg this guy to go ahead and say a prayer and make Jesus his Savior even though he wasnt willing to make Jesus Lord. Why didnt Jesus insist he pray and reserve his spot in heaven? Doesnt Jesus offer savior-only plans? A thought to ponder today. YOU ARE RICH! Will you let it keep you from following Jesus? Are we more concerned with our important stuff or His?
