I ATE THIS....AND SURVIVED Miss Rosie spent a day happily helping her owner, Wilma, on a little fishing expedition...until she smelt the fishy goodness on the end of a hook and promptly swallowed it, still with the line attached!! Wilma rushed her in to us where an x-ray revealed that the hook had made it all the way down into her stomach. No way of fishing that baby out through the top end - she needed surgery to enter her abdomen, open her stomach and take the little sucker out. Hooks can cut into the side of the stomach or intestine or, if they move through, the line attached drags along behind and can saw its way through the intestines as well. Fishing hooks are a common object that dogs and cats get stuck in the lips and tongue, they like the smell of old fish or prawn guts and lick at them. Rosie was just a bit greedy and skipped the licking part. If she hadnt been so greedy she may have faced a much smaller surgery in just her lip! Rosie made a full recovery, is full of beans and, so far, has managed to stay away from anymore fishing hooks!
