I Worship God in Nature Psalm 19:1-14 I have met many - TopicsExpress

I Worship God in Nature Psalm 19:1-14 I have met many individuals who reverently uttered the words, I worship God in nature, as their reason for never attending church. Though for most the oft-quoted phrase is simply an excuse, there are some who genuinely are confused about worshipping God in nature. Yes, the handiwork of the Lord is vividly visible throughout the natural world around us. As one gazes into the wonders of the night sky or looks through the lens of a microscope, the glorious work of Gods creative hand is undeniable. This truth caused the psalmist to proclaim, The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament sheweth His handiwork (v.1). Furthermore, it is also true that God is not limited by the laws of the physical universe and that He is omnipresent. Consider what the psalmist declares in Psalm 139:7-10. But often misunderstood is the fact that the living God is a Person, and though we can see His handiwork in the beauties of creation, truly knowing God comes only by allowing Him to speak to us through His Word. The latter verses of todays text highlight this truth (vv.7-11). The handiwork of the One who made the worlds (Heb.1:2) is evident in Gods creation, causing some to feel close to God in nature. However, as pleasant as that feeling might be, salvation and spiritual maturity come only through truly knowing God through His Word. We are born again...by the Word of God (1 Pet.1:23) and nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine (1 Tim.4:6). This does not happen by simply pondering the beauties of the natural world but, rather, by studying and being under the faithful preaching of the written Word of God.
