I agree 100%. When I was a kid, I thought that if I admitted that I was gay that I would immediately become an over-the-top stereotype (because thats all I ever saw) until Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman came along. It was the first (and still only) tv show or movie that showed gay men that didnt look or act any different than the way straight men were perceived. It was on at 1pm and I would run home (leaving school early) every day to watch it. It made me feel normal. Now, 40 years later, and it still remains that ONLY EXAMPLE. I do a gay band called Hirsute Pursuit. When I submitted a music video to the gay channel, LAOGO, I was told that it was too masculine for them. Apparently they want to perpetuate the stereotype, too. As an out and proud gay man, I dont want to be represented by RuPaul (no offense to RuPaul). Like straight men, gay men run the gammut from extremely feminine to extremely masculine. Its long overdue that we be shown as such!
