I almost did it. I almost believed the hype. I almost forgot how much Bill Cosby has meant to the black community. I almost allowed his well-meaning albeit misguided rants about the state of black people cloud my feelings about his present situation. Then I remembered Michael. Then I remembered Emmett and the thousands and thousands of young black men who were lynched for being accused of raping white women. I remembered the thousands of black men in prison today, waiting for their chance for DNA analysis to exonerate them from their charges of raping white women. Then I wondered what must he have done to incur the wrath of the very mainstream who held him in such high regard? Yes, he was beloved by an America who accepted him and allowed him to prosper, but who now are repulsed by him because he is being accused of raping white women. Hidden within the apex of the brightest light of his shining star was his blackness. We must not forget that he is innocent until proven otherwise.
