I am 28 and I have psoriasis (plaque) since Im 5 years old. I once read that triggers of psoriasis at a young age were due to experiencing some kind of traumatic or stressful event or a genetic factor. I have been researching Psoriasis obsessively since my early teens and I have come to a conclusion. My skin cell replicate each time Im wounded. My skin protects my inner wounds. My skin speaks to me. It tells me that there is pain, stress and that each patch symbolizes the infliction of how my environment affects me. I may not know it, but my skin knows it. Think about it... The immune system sends out faulty signals that a normal skin cell is a pathogen, resulting to the overproduction of new skin cells to those diagnosed with the autoimmune disease Psoriasis. According to Wikipedia, a pathogen, in Greek means suffering, passion or producer of which Ive translated to when I suffer, my skin suffers. Hey, I take pride in knowing that I am extremely sensitive to my environment and to people and that I have great communication with my body. It only wants to protect me. Every time it senses fear from me, it wants to keep adding protective layers of skin. I feel like I have a special gift, Amazing!!! I have many patches of layers because I am forever protecting myself from open wounds, though I am never really protecting them because the healing never ends. Perhaps the root of the problem has not been addressed. Maybe it all starts with our attitude and learning to deal with and accept our sensitivities. Allowing the emotion to process, expressing thyself, breathing deeply and feeling good at the end of it all. May I suggest... I think it is important to express your feelings all the time. We need to stop overthinking, being so introspective and learn to decrease the amount of internal dialogue we have with ourselves, its not healthy. Find someone around you (whether a partner, spouse, close friend or sibling) that can give you a full body massage with oil. (I recommend olive and coconut oil mix). We need to form more emotional and physical connections with others and we need to be in comfortable environments with right temperature. Keep smiling, you are beautiful. I am proud to be amongst all you sensitive people ;) Shannon
