I am Qualified In Submarines. Your average person says thats cool fellow bubbleheads say brother. It is an elite fraternity, but fraternity almost cheapens the concept. Fraternities build brotherhood through stupid dares and pranks, manufactured challenges that dont amount to squat in the big scheme of things. The challenges of serving on a submarine are real, and so is the brotherhood that is born there. Qualifying in submarines is a major personal achievement that we... all share, one of our proudest moments, but it is not ours alone, it does not happen with out an entire crew. The qual card has dozens of signatures on it, from every division on the boat, and while they do represent the result of endless hours of study, they also stand for hours spent all over the boat, hanging out with this watch stander and that, each imparting knowledge essential to the cards completion. A hard check out and a bunch of look ups went a long way toward your ultimate success and your ability to do what needs to be done when it matters most. I think for these reasons, your qual boat is nearest and dearest to your heart. We really got to know that crew like no other since. I say proudly I am Qualified In Submarines, but my brothers can just as well say We Qualified Him In Submarines, and for that I am humbly grateful.
