I am a little bit beyond excited right now. Joey is a 5 year old Pionus who I took in a little over a month ago. He was very defensive and aggressive around his cage. I started working with him as soon as he got here. I was able to move him to a larger and more sturdy cage, which I thought might help also because it would be a new home for him, so maybe he would be less territorial. I also stick trained him. He seemed worried of hands so I have basically kept my hands covered with my sweatshirt sleeve. Once he flew off the cage and followed me and stepped up onto my sleeved hand. Today, I was working on stick training and had short sleeves on so my hand was exposed. I went into the kitchen to make him some mac and cheese and he followed me in there and landed on the floor. I decided to take a chance and offer my hand. I did and he stepped up onto my bare hand!!! OMG. He stayed on me chatting and munching on things just hanging out while I made the mac and cheese one handed!! Then we went back into the room and I sat down next to his cage and fed him some mac and cheese. I then had him step back onto his stick and put him back in his cage and fed him a BUNCH more mac and cheese. This is such a huge thing for us. I am over the the moon!
