I am busy reading a diary of a burgher Hugo H. van Nierkerk from the Bloemfontein commando (Christiaan De Wet Annale Nr. 1, 1972). He was captured at Paardeberg and made a POW in the Green Point camp in Cape Town. He mentions that they were issued British bell tents and waterproofs (ground sheets), but since he and one of his friends “still” had their Vrystaatsche zeiltjies (Free State canvas sheets) that were larger than the British waterproofs, they could make a two man tent for themselves. So, it seems not only the OVSAC were issued with German M1893 zelbahn sheets, some of the normal Free State burghers might have received them as well.
