I am disturbed and seriously bothered to find that someone called the Hope Center this morning and cussed out our secretary, screaming that we do what we do only for the money. For those of you who know us, Im sure no explanation is necessary. But I feel the need to stand up for this ministry because its our life. People of Oroville, the Hope Center started out of my own home, when my husband was disabled by TWO neck surgeries and I was a college student. We started it because kind people blessed us when we were in need, and we wanted to be that kind of blessing to others too. So we started giving everything we had away, and God multiplied it. Turns out people like giving things away to needy people more than wasting it. We dont do what we do for the money. My husband and I receive a very small monthly salary, and we only have a few paid employees who also do not get paid what we feel they are worth. We are faced EVERY MONTH with impossible odds in our finances, and God always moves through kind people to meet those financial needs. We do it because there are needy people all over our city who have real needs, and we find ways to get them what they need. We do it because if you are living and breathing, then you are valued by God. We are just trying to be a hub through which those who want to help CAN help others. If you dont want to help, thats ok. But please get to know us, who we are and what we do, and WHY we do it, before you make assumptions and criticize us and people like us, people who really are trying to do good things in our city. We love Oroville!
