I am looking for someone who wants to attend The Newport Massage School at SAMA starting Jan 3, 2015 in exchange for working as the Class Liaison. This would be a free opportunity to earn your Massage Therapy License as well as your Ayurvedic Spa Technician Certification! Its a 1 year program with summers off. Classes meet 2 weekends per month Noon-6pm and M, T & W from 6-9:30pm. This opportunity would require that you attend and be a student in the program. I am pasting the Class Liaison job description below. If you are interested, but live too far away, I am happy to help you find housing and get established. I trust the right person will appear in perfecting timing! Thank you! Student Liaison Job Description Act as an intermediary between students and director/teachers, to field questions, comments, and concerns. Collect assignments and organize student records. Turn over such assignments, as requested, to appropriate staff member. Protect the privacy of students and staff alike by utilizing BCC on bulk emails. Comprise and update a contact list for all students, complete with birthdays, email and street addresses, and any other relevant data. Keep record of student attendance. Be alert regarding the plan in the curriculum and help to keep the teacher poised to meet those goals. Example, making note of the time if there is significant info to communicate and conversations are taking many detours, or helping the teacher to remember when a lunch or break time is approaching - thus supporting the smooth and timely functioning of the classroom. Keep a running record of student progress within the program. Contact students (individually) periodically, to update on items that may be past due, or upcoming due dates. Open the online or in person classroom 15 minutes prior to the start of class. Attend to the back end of the Student Central website. Become familiar with the manner in which various issues can be remedied. Receive reports of issues from students and work toward resolution. Send out bulk emails, as per the direction of Karyn and/or other staff. Be willing to accommodate the needs of various students and staff members, particularly those visiting from other areas - helping them to find local resources, etc (or effectively directing them to those who may know the local area and are able to advise. Essentially, be a warm and welcoming host/ess for guests. Establish a record to assure that pertinent information is verified as received & read by all necessary recipients. This is not simply the sending of the correspondence, but requiring the recipient to confirm that they have read and understood it, so that no one can later claim to have not received. Keep track of who has not responded and contact them personally, until confirmation of the information exchange has been confirmed (best in writing... phone/verbal contact are more difficult to verify later). On campus, see to the fluid function of the classroom. Establish policies for opening/closing, making tea, taking out trash, clean up, candles/altar, snacks & community meals (when applicable)... assign tasks or establish a volunteer sign up sheet, so that all students are active participants in setting the energy of the classroom into action. Be forward thinking, anticipating any issues which may not have presented themselves yet. Prevention of any problem is always preferred over having to clean up after it. Though, problems do occur, so a strong sense of conflict resolution is also key. Take the initiative to present ideas for how the needs of both the students/ staff and the school at large can be met, and anticipate what those needs might be. Develop a keen understanding of the program and the field at large, in all aspects: curriculum, scheduling, exams/assignments, teacher contact info, professional organizations and their role, credentialing exams, resources for exploring professional legal implications, insurance, etc.... or at least a willingness to explore these areas as questions regarding them may come up.
