I am reviewing the science fiction movie Divergent which is excellent. It stars Kailene Woodley as a young lady who is coming of age and this is set in the future when the world is divided into 5 groups. Kailene or Tris as her character is called although initially her name is Beatrice has to be tested to find her a suitable and is found to be a divergent which normally means she is killed. It means she has special powers but luckily the tester takes pity on her and offers to let her join any group she wants so she joins the dauntless or law enforcers although they are more like the army. Kate Winslett gives an excellent performance as the leader of their society who wants to keep peace at any cost even if it means massacring people and is quite an evil character. Ashley Judd plays Triss mother and Tris has to undergo a grueling training course and midway her mother comes to warn part of the second phase of intensive training is testing to see if she is a divergent. Luckily a tough but fair drill instructor is also a divergent and although initially she mistrusts him he does help her. They grow romantically attached and have to take on Kate and her cohorts. It is based on a best selling teen fiction novel that I kept help but think reminds me of the Hunger Games although in a nice way and certainly isnt a rip off. The 2 lead characters, Kailene & I forgot the actors name who becomes romantically attached to her but both give great performances. I think they will both go on to be very successful actors. The film as with most science fiction movies is very big budget and deserves to do well at the box office which undoubtedly it will. I have to admit I thoroughly enjoyed it. It finally is the kind of film that looks best on the big screen so its probably best to see it at the cinema.
