I am seeing in multi groups that folks are worried about the winter, or the low wind chills coming across the country .. wind chill and actual temperature is NOT the same .. if you all have decent made coops, that are free of drafts and good ventilation, unless you have an exotic breed, the chickens will be fine, with no heat .. I have shared this picture before, and think it is a good time to share it again. This coop is a recreation of a hen house belonging to the PILGRIMS in the 1620s .. It is located at Plimouth Plantation, in Plymouth, MA (40 minutes west of me) .. Note that their birds traveled with them on the Mayflower, and while they may or may not have had the LOVE for the birds that we all do, they RELIED on their birds surviving .. This was nearly 400 years ago .. They survived them, they will survive now ...
