I am thinking about an ad I just saw on You Tube about fracking in the Karoo. Three men are asked what they think about this. Two men say no. They are thinking of oil leaks and pollution amongst other things and the Karoo soil becoming unfarmable. The third one say: Everyone who has nothing, they want this project so much. I understand this, but the other side of the arguement is that those who have nothing will nog be affected as they will still have only nothing if something goes wrong - whereas those who farm in the Karoo will loose everything they have ... What kind of arguement is this to frack all over the Karoo just because it is vast and available? What will become of its beauty, its peace, its soul healing qualities? It will just be another Secunda, Sasol, industrial area with all its healing and pristine tranquility gone for ever. And then? What will become of us? Are there no powers left in South Africa who believe in the strength of this lands vastness, its aesthetics and its value to heal and uplift people just as it is? What happened to candles? Let there be light. And what will happen to the future green, much cleaner than frcaking, solar and wind plans for relaying energy? This is also available in abundance in the whole of Africa - thats the way to go. I tell all you greedy lazy non-planning, never thinking powers: GO FRACK YOURSELVES, BUT LEAVE THE KAROO ALONE Everywhere there are articles springing up on the Internet about how fracking would save the millions. How wonderful it is that we have the Karoo so we can use this lovely safe method of fracking which wll save everyone. Yes? I can see those miles and liles of tubes carrying water like huge worms defiling the still beautiful countryside. And who will pay for it? The same ouks who will pay for Gautengs e-toll gemors of course, my dear: You and I Nay, I say. Leave the Karoo alone. Her clear clean AIR is virtually all we will have left, once the scourge of huts and dirt has crept all over every other part of South Africa like a cancer, but for the dry Karoo. That is where you should spend all your energy: preventing this Southern part of Africa of spreading the outer expression of a corpse, all along the roads to cities by people desperate for what you cannot provide: water, light and peace of mind. I am convinced this new grand exploration of the Karoo by Shell is just white wash for attracting votes in time for next year. And after that? Who cares. Who will care for the waste, the loss of money, of land, of our Karoo. Who amongst all of us love the Karoo enough to save her? Lets do something!
