I am tired of badly behaved photographers ruining it for the rest of us. Be it wildlife photographers who get too close to wildlife and force park rangers to shut an area down or wedding photographers who get too close to the ceremony, use their flash thereby forcing churches to tell all photographers that they have to stay behind the last row of pews. At the last wedding I shot, I told the Monsignor who was doing the ceremony, that I never use flash photography during the ceremony but asked if it was okay if I used my flash while photographing them coming down the aisle and he said yes. I then asked if there were any other rules I needed to know about and he said no. During the ceremony, I went to the back row of the side pews and got a few shots and then returned to the back of the church. I would never dream of getting closer to the ceremony than that. Turns out the Monsignor was not from that church and there was, in fact, a rule saying that photographers must stay behind the last pew. When the lady in charge of organizing and overseeing weddings in the church informed me that I was not allowed to go where I had, I felt awful that I had broken the rule. She said they had several wedding photographers who knew the rule and broke it anyway once the ceremony started and because of that it was her job to keep an eye on the photographers. She said one photographer who knew the rule actually belly crawled down the middle aisle all the way to the third pew and started shooting. Then she told me that St. Edwards in Little Rock is considering banning photographers all together and only allowing them to shoot reenactments of parts of the ceremony afterward. So thank you to all the badly behaved wedding photographers who have ruined it for the couples who have gone to the trouble to find photographers who know how to behave in a professional and respectful way.
