I am totally appalled that the manufacturers and suppliers of electric wheelchairs do not provide an on-call rescue service for when their customers/clients chairs break down when they are away from home or that there is not some sort of AA type of breakdown organisation. Surely the whole point of an electric wheelchair is to give the person autonomy and independence - there is not a lot of independence involved when a chair breaks down and the person is told to call back the supplier when they have someone with them and left waiting (and burning) in hot sunshine, eventually having to call a specialist taxi to take them home because the company will only come and fix the chair at the home address…… So much for inclusivity and accessibility and taking good care of people who have difficulty getting around
