I am totally bowled over by Geoff Johnss final The Rise of the 3rd Army/The Wrath of the First Lantern arc. You have to read everything - including the related titles, in the right order - to understand why I say that it is the perfect end for Johnss 9-year run on Green Lantern. With a major war always riding on the back of the last major war, I have been marvelling for years how Johns could keep this up, whether the idea of universe-level conflict might ever go stale. But no, he kept pulling out good, new reasons for another big bang - right up to the end - and the First Lantern, a vampire of emotional histories, is such an intelligent device to revisit all the key moments in the last 9 years. This is it for me. This is the authoritative Green Lantern story, the one in which I am finally totally convinced that Hal Jordan is the greatest Green Lantern ever. I will not read another Green Lantern title anymore: this is truly and surely the end of Green Lantern lore for me, the absolute end. I dont think it can be bettered, and I dont want to know if it can be. Thanks for the colourful, action-packed, crazy, epic journey, Geoff!
