I am unhappy with what happened to one of our friends, Frank - TopicsExpress

I am unhappy with what happened to one of our friends, Frank Vargas. Please show him some support. Below is the discrimination I received from my employer regarding my son on the spectrum. This has taken a huge financial toll on our family, not to mention the emotional toll. At the end there is a call to action, please take the time and let these people know that their illegal, behavior will not be tolorated... Anyone who has a child with disabilities or special needs (even anyone that has some connection to a special needs child) knows it is very challenging and expensive to raise them. So the last thing a dedicated parent of a disabled child needs is to be deprived of an income and forced out of a job due to his childs disability. Lawley Automotive Group owns several auto dealerships in Sierra Vista, AZ. My husband, Frank, was a happy and loyal employee and worked hard for Sean Lawleys company. We are talking 12 hour days, 6 days a week, and responding to internet inquiries from customers at home all night. Our 3 year old son, Michael, was officially diagnosed with autism in April 2013. When we were forced to move to Tucson to get therapy services for our son, Frank remained loyal to Lawley Automotive Group and commuted 1 hour and 20 minutes to work each way every day. Frank was committed to being at every evaluation, doctor appointment, IEP meeting, etc. and we were usually able to schedule those on his days off, but he did have to ask to switch days off a few times. He began to notice a pattern of not having an equal number of deals given to him as one of two Finance Managers in each dealership store, therefore depriving him of the opportunity to earn an income. When he brought this up with his immediate supervisors, Frank was told that if he had a special needs son, then maybe that wasnt the place for him to work. This was a completely ILLEGAL statement made to Frank by upper management and the obvious discrimination was costing Frank the ability to earn an income. Frank immediately filed a formal complaint with Lawleys Chief Financial Officer and the Human Resources Department. After his formal complaint, the discrimination became worse and more flagrant as upper management retaliated against Frank for complaining. My husband was effectively deprived of the opportunity to earn an income for our family and was forced to leave after an 80% cut in his pay. CFO Frank Gonzalez, COO Bob Santa Maria, and CEO Sean Lawley condoned the behavior by doing nothing to stop it and by even encouraging the behavior. We couldnt believe that even in these modern times, Lawley Automotive Group would discriminate so openly to their employee about his disabled son. Within 8 months of our sons autism diagnosis, Frank had been forced out of earning a commission income and forced to leave his job. It has taken our family a long time to recover from this financially and emotionally and we finally feel like we need to come out and tell our family, friends, and the community the truth about Lawley Automotive Group and the way they openly discriminate against employees who are parents of disabled children. Please do not support a business that discriminates against disabled children and please pass the word around the community. If you feel so inclined, please even feel free to send an email, letter, or make a phone call to Sean Lawley himself and let him know that the community wont tolerate his companys illegal discrimination of employees who are parents of disabled children. He knows what you are talking about because he hired a big time labor lawyer to try to settle our EEOC discrimination complaint against him as fast as possible, before the EEOC could even investigate, but we just want his company to stop condoning and fostering their culture of illegal discrimination.
