I am writing this with permission from Brittney Elise At 3:50am this morning my heart stopped. Yesterday was Brittneys 21st birthday and she went to celebrate with her sisters and mom. They had a great time and enjoyed the evening. A friend picked her up so they could celebrate her 21st together. All was well and done safely. While she was out, she met her cousin who offered her a ride home since her hadnt been drinking. All is still well. They stop at a convenience store to get some snacks and pull out on Highway 18 going home and that is where this celebratory evening turned into a nightmare. Without any warning at all, they were hit from behind by a drunk driver. They were hit so hard that their vehicle was spun around many times and at some point two young men were thrown out the back of the vehicle. Brittney had her seatbelt on and so did the driver. Once the vehicle stopped they both looked in the backseat and the boys were gone. When they got out of the vehicle, they saw a horrific sight no one should see. My baby girl survived this terrible experience and for that I am grateful. Standing in the middle of Hwy 18 holding my daughter as tight as I can while she sobbed uncontrollably as she experienced death raises so many emotions within me as a dad. She did everything right while celebrating her 21st and yet has experience a horrific traumatizing thing. I am grateful beyond words that my baby girl was spared and my prayers go to the families of those killed and injured. wapt/news/fatal-crash-closes-highway-18/25234780?absolute=true
