I answer customer service calls at my company. It is usually one or two calls a week and I it keeps me focused on why we have this business: to sell good quality products at a reasonable price so people can clean and maintain their homes, cars and offices. Today’s call was with Pam and she was looking for information on using microfiber terry towels. This is what I told her: 1. Microfiber terry can be used for many applications, dry dusting your furniture or with water and a little soap for countertops or floors. 2. Good microfiber terry is made with 80%polyester and 20% nylon. After it is woven, the fabric is processed to split the fibers and turn it into the miracle absorber and wiper that it is. 3. The split fibers are what make it microbial. The fibers are so small and sharp that bacteria are punctured and bleed all their cytoplasm; the absorbent nature of the cloth then holds the whole mess until the cloth is washed. 4. The reason microfiber can be used effectively with little or no chemical cleaners is because its fibers are so small the fibers can go into the pores of the surface being cleaned and pull out the gunk, while cotton or paper towels have large fibers that rely on chemical surfactants to bring the gunk to the top of the surface, then absorb the result. 5. Microfiber is more economical than cotton or paper wipers. Microfiber can be washed and reused up to 5000 times before losing its effectiveness. Cotton usually wears out after 100 washes and paper is usually used once before it is thrown away.
