I asked a couple friends recently to share with me their recent health journey and today I want to share with you one of those stories. Perhaps this may not apply to you but I guarantee you know of someone that can relate. By sharing this post with them, you could be giving them the push to make a change to better health. This story today is from a couple that I worked with 20 years ago at Walt Disney World! Because of FB, we have reconnected and now share a journey in getting healthier together. I have been given permission to use the picture and when I asked Wendy to share their story (of their journey so far) she told me and I’ll quote “I hope it can help someone so maybe they dont take as long to learn as I did.” How awesome is that! They see the difference, they feel the difference and they want the best that life can give them! In November of 2013, Lance and I decided we needed to start incorporating some more fruits and veggies into our diet. So we decided to do the 30 day green smoothie challenge and bought a Vitamix. (That baby made all the difference in the world with our smoothies, so happy we spent that money.) The 30 days went well and we were working out some at our local Y but only 1-2 days a week. Typically when the boys had a practice there. We didnt change much else of our eating except doing the smoothie for breakfast. The end of the month, Lance decided to get some blood work done. Upon getting the results we found his Tris were at 555 and he was at least 260 lbs and the doctor put him on medicine for the high Tris. We have found out all the men in Lances family all have high tris and are on medicine. Just think of what his blood work would of been if we hadnt been doing a green smoothie for breakfast each day. His doctor appointment was the beginning of our wake up call. The doctor told him to do a caveman diet and would really recommend eating all natural foods. So we started to do that. Since we were talking about his health I wanted to talk to Lance about my weight. Everything else with my blood work is good, Im just overweight and have always struggled with it. I was exercising more and eating a tad better but I was not seeing any difference in my weight and that was discouraging me which would traditionally make me eat more. I had done a doctor weight loss type diet before and he said I should do it again to give me the jump start I need. So on 12/4/13, I went in and did it. They do the B-12 shots and an appetite suppressant. I go in weekly for a check up and weigh in and roughly eat 700-750 calories a day. When I started I weighed 222.6 and Im 56. With starting this I decided I needed to take other actions and Lance joined me. We found our whole food store and love it. We buy most of our meat there. We also do Publixs Greenwise meat their organic brand when we dont have time to get to Whole Foods. We are eating a lot more fruits and veggies too and try to get organic where we can. Both of us started working out more too- averaging 6 days a week. Typically Lance would be 30 minutes and then some push ups and sit-ups at the house. I work out 5-6 days a week for at least an hour a day. On my cardio days, Ill do 30 minutes on an elliptical and 20 minutes on a bike. On my weight days, Ill do 20 and 20 on the bike and elliptical and then 25 minutes of weights then about 60 crunches. I do yoga on Saturday mornings for an hour to stretch out my body from the week of working out. I have started doing a body pump or body combat class for an hour 2 times a week at our Y. Its a lot of fun and I know I need to keep it mixed up if I plan to keep this weight off. Currently Ive lost 44 pounds and am at 178.6 and want to get to 155 to 150. I was a 18W and am now a 14. Lance is now 220 and is only 5 pounds away from his first goal. We got blood work done the other day and we go back to the doctor on Thursday to see how the change is there. Both of us feel great. We both had pretty bad stomach issue with diverticulitus and have not had any issues since weve started. Lance would feel bad about 1 or 2 times a week and doesnt anymore. He also had a hard time sleeping through the night and snoring and thats a lot better too. Me, I do feel I have more energy and am having fun fitting into things I havent in awhile. Update this week: Lance got his tri numbers this week and they went from 555 three months ago to 97. Going to stay on meds for 6 more months and if it stays same, the doctor will take him off the meds. Hes going to wait the 6 months because hes only 5 lbs away from his maintain mode and then we can see what the number is while just maintaining since he lost so much during the last 3 months. WHAT A GREAT STORY! Thanks for letting me share Wendy and Lance! Love you both! How awesome to see such great results! The determination to get healthier together! Isnt it always easy to have someone right along side of you? Wendy did mention also that she was waiting to post pictures at her 1 year mark. She knew that if she kept if off a year that she knew she had truly done it! For some folks, I send emails of healthy smoothie recipes, various ways to lose weight, fun exercises or maybe it is just positive affirmations to get through the day and then others I will work more closely with to set different goals to achieve for a healthier life. If you are interested in making that small change or maybe you are sick and tired of being sick and tired, I would love to help you in any way I can. Just message me here or email me at nmbwellness@yahoo. Feel free to leave a message of inspiration to Wendy and Lance as they will both see this post. I am not going to tag them but I know any words of encouragement no matter where we are on our personal journey are always welcome! Thanks! Jill
