I asked a question about safety protections for the firefighters, - TopicsExpress

I asked a question about safety protections for the firefighters, esp with regard to breathing, and this is the answer I got. It makes me respect them even more, for all they have to go through and endure to keep us safe. North Tahoe Fire Protection District said: Susi, Safety for the firefighters and airborne crews is the most important thing. For structure fires they have PPE or Personal Protection Equipment such as SBCA or Self Contained Breathing Apparatus and alarms. Wildland firefighters have specialized PPE equipment as well like portable burn shelters. These people do experience exposure to much more in the wildland firefight. They have to climb very rugged terrain for hours on end. Fire departments and districts make very sure the crews are physically fit to handle this work with pre hire testing and they are mostly young. Logistics and strategies directed by their commanders play a big part in how and when they are deployed. No more brave souls than these. Thank you for your comments.
