I attended an oil spill workshop on Saturday morning at the Padilla Bay Reserve in Anacortes. Shell staff were at the event along with staff from Tesoro, Dept Ecology, Skagit Co, and USCG to present to the public group about oil spills in general. They said that something was going on at the refinery that morning but it was taken are of. None of the authorities informed the group what really was going on a mile away at the refinery. One staff member from Shell named Chet said to the group we want to be good partners and transparent about what we do. So it was very interesting to read about the spill in the paper afterward. While the spill was happening, I was in the same room as the people who are responsible to respond to it, but no one there was transparent about it to members of the public.
