I attended the funeral service of my very good friend Paul Dorman - TopicsExpress

I attended the funeral service of my very good friend Paul Dorman today. Paul unfortunately took his own life last Friday 3/21. I dont understand it, although in this broken world Ive come to not be surprised by almost anything anymore. I try to encourage others & be intentional, but Pauls passing challenges me to be that much more focused on taking time for others--not just to keep my eyes open for possible trouble, but because life can be hard & even a simple phone call, word of appreciation, or to take a minute & pray for someone, can be very meaningful. Paul was extremely industrious & wore many hats even in high school (CATERER with his family (then on his own later in life), CAR GUY who at 17 worked at local dealerships & often bought trade-ins to fix up & sell (it was not uncommon for him to have 3-4 cars on the family property at a time), ATHLETE (including hoops & soccer), and BUSINESSMAN including rental property owner. He loved God too even as he struggled with following the Lord at times...but that was OK. Paul was down-to-earth and unpretentious. What I appreciated the most about Paul though was his smile, his kindness, and the laughter he brought to so many of us (including when trying to charm others into getting his way & sheepishly grinning when called on it) or when pushing the boundaries to see what he could get away with :). I wanted to affirm & honor Paul on this day because although we only saw each other once in a great while the past 20+ years, it was always very easy to reconnect, and his genuine friendship was always evident. I will miss you very much, Paul. You were one of my most favorite friends, and in the sadness of your passing I will still celebrate many great memories. 1 Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. 2 In my Fathers house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. (John 14:1-3) Looking forward to seeing you again, my brother (I know Im not the only one :)).
