I been using Transcendental Meditation since 2011 and since then Ive felt a major difference in my overall wellness (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual), focus, stress level and spiritual consiousness. This has actaully helped with sobriety, learning traditional songs faster than before, more traditional language and even understanding indigenous concepts in an English context when I have to. TM has been a helpful addition to my traditional practices of ceremony, song prayer and dance that Ive learnt growing up. It isnt meant to replace any of them, only another tool to assist. The effects of mindfulness and mediation are universal and there are various ways to get to the same results. I know our indigenous ancestors have always practiced versions of mindfulness and meditation aside form ceremony, song, dance and prayer. How those were practiced in terms of breathing technique, where the consciousness was focused and weather there was a mantra technique used, I dont know, personally– but I do know the knowledge is out there and being utilized. I like to think that when I practice mindfulness and medication Im also recreating a healthy cycle to be passed down; genetically and habitually. Ive never needed science to prove my spiritual practices to be functional –but its always helplful to learn about in a western context. iflscience/brain/does-mindfulness-physically-alter-cells-cancer-survivors0
