I believe Tony might benefit from reading Jeremiah. Speaks to the issue of care for the poor, widows, orphans, immigrants- those who are vulnerable and do not have the voice to be heard in those places where justice is to be served. This wide sweeping understanding if caring for the vulnerable is not levied at individuals, single people or persons, but on the whole if the society, so that the laws enacted not simply show care for those vulnerable, but serve specifically to NOT take advantage of them, simply because they are easy, voiceless prey. Being as the gov is the place where the laws, practices, behaviors are coded into the societal systems, I very well do believe the halls of congress are a place for such discussions. Separation of church and state? Whole heartedly believe this to be vital. But ones trust in God/The Great Spirit/The Divine/Allah/The One Who Authors Life is a part of who we are and is not something to check at the cloakroom on our way to our work space. And if we actually took time to learn what others had to say, I dont believe there is one faith tradition affirming leveraging the poor and vulnerable to maximize profit is of divine blessing. In fact, I believe there would be a beautifully harmonious melody of voices affirming a very special place for those who do seek to enact such practices. Regardless of what other faith traditions do, or do not say, Tony, YOUR tradition very emphatically informs us of the impossibility of serving two masters. It would appear you have made your choice.
