I consider myself a visitor here for the most part as I am an Episcopalian. I am also a college professor who teaches Religious Studies so I like to follow a number of different Christian traditions in order to understand where the Christian Church is today. I have been reading for two years now about the UMC challenges that lie ahead. As an Episcopalian, I am not in any way interested in poaching UMC people. A vital UMC presence is important today and tomorrow! As a teacher of religious studies, I understand the role of the UMC historically in the tradition we called mainline Protestants. My question is I guess one that you have probably hashed and rehashed many times. Is there a way forward without the creation of two distinct Methodist denominations? I am aware of the writings of Adam Hamilton and others. If this is the wrong kind of question to pose, please let me know and Ill delete it!
