I decided to become an incidental tourist again. I have some meetings scheduled tomorrow in Rochester, NY and flew in to Niagara Falls on Friday evening and had a chance to explore when the area was not crowded with tourists. The falls are weirdly beautiful and menacing on rainy, windy and cold days. I went to a deserted rock outcropping below the Rainbow bridge and was able to get a great shot and then took a couple of hours to explore the gorge on foot. The whirlpool trail drops about 300 feet with a switchback trail (solid with gravel, thank god, as I no longer have the best balance in the world).
