I discovered this album by Flora Purim in 1976, my junior year at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This was one of my early inspirations that prompted my exploration of Brazilian music. Now, 39 years later, Im working with a band that plays Brazilian and Brazilian influenced music; on top of that, our vocalist, Fernanda Noronha, reminds me a lot of Flora Purim and our percussionists bring the fire of Airto! It really is a good feeling to be a part of a band like this....and to think the seed was planted almost 40 years ago!
