I do feel a great sympathy for anyone who experiences a once in a life time trajety where by accident or by circumstances they suffers a defining moment in the collective memory of all Americans. An entire life of good works and responsible conduct can, and in many cases is, erased by an irrational or out of character act or spontaneous utterance. Afterwards, that person will be remembered in our history for that one moment regardless of a life well lived. The Jane Fonda Nebula Effect. The colliery to this tragedy is quite the opposite. Another person may enjoy fame and fortune in a life full of slanderous acts and moral depravation while strutting on the public stage. These individuals may, and usually do, hold public office where title permits limitless boundaries to inflict harm to others for personal appreciation only. The Darrell Issa Effect. And, somehow this tragedy is sanctioned under the auspices of governance for the public good. One, a life ruined by accident and the other a life built on slander where both are remembered for opposite values. Truly, our house is not in order. I do realize that the rain falls in equal measure on the good and the bad but I question our adoration of public figures as we have some control over that charitable event. By our rewarding of this adoration we usually get exactly what we deserve.
