I do not fly the flag every day, because to me that makes the times that it should be displayed less significant. I fly it today. As I hung it yesterday, I ran through as many names of relatives and friends whose service, loyalty and devotion I honor by flying the flag. To all of you who have served, all of you who have served and passed on, and all of you who stand today in uniform at your post, you are in my thoughts. I will not save this day to honor only those who have fallen in the course of their duty. I will also honor those who accepted that risk in their oath.I am a civilian, and I have never earned the right to salute you, but I will do you what honor is your due. I may question the decisions of the nation as to how they use your oath, I may wish that our world did not need such an oath, but I will never question the oath, duty, or sacrifice of a soldier. Any soldier. I will forget too many names, so excuse me please, if in the moment I do not remember to name you. Sgt. Gregory Alan Algren (active duty) Bill Sargent Benjamin White (active duty) Ira Parks Bruce Parks Steve Parks Ben Parks Michael White William Arceneaux Dennis Dill William Gray Scheffel Carol Willis Henson Mark L. Akerman (active duty) Art Parker Mark Vandroff (active duty) Christopher Oleniczak Clarence Carpenter (active duty) Gary Nabozny Andrew Larrison Shaun McCone (active duty) Peter Oakes And so many, many more.
