I do not think Animal Rights can be achieved under capitalism. - TopicsExpress

I do not think Animal Rights can be achieved under capitalism. True, major strides are being made in awareness of animals as sentient beings, and many people are coming to embrace ethical treatment of animals. But none of that is Animal Rights. Only when we prohibit ownership, exploitation, and murder of animals will Animal Rights be realized. And that cannot happen under capitalism. The prohibition of animals as commodities is anathema to capitalism. The profit motive will assure that government is powerless to stop the Animal Holocaust, unless business interests are banned from influencing government. A centralized, worldwide authority is required to prevent capitalism from further destroying the Earth and to enforce a vegan world. Such can only occur under socialism. We wont live to see it, but it is hardly a waste of time working toward it. Because unless we do, the Animal Holocaust will continue indefinitely.
