I dont have a favourite band per se but there are some that anyone who knows me in flesh or thru FB will know Im cray about. Funkadelic, Fishbone and these guys, Mr. Bungle. Out of the 3 albums they dropped in their 9 years of recording which took up the entire decade of the 90s, this was the 2nd and weirdest one. The one Ive avoided the most in retrospect. Heard it a couple of weeks ago with a good mate of mine and every sound came back to me vividly and I realized how great this often forgotten album is. Mr. Bungle will always be a massive part of who I am musically. One of the few situations where high art and high musicality and dexterity come together. Visually artistic music with crazy musical chops and performances and just sheer boldness of ideas. Zappa or Zorn is the only thing I can really compare Bungle to but that doesnt cut it for me either. A billion musical ideas and genres make appearances but the overall approach is that of an orchestral composer. I could crap on about Bungle all day, but I wont. Time to demolish a breakfast somewhere.
