I dont think this song is at all about a breakup or lack of ability to find a lover; I do think it is rather about the lack of ability to love and find any sort of satisfaction or self-fulfillment in a relationship. We are all stranger to each other no matter how long we remain in proximity to each other. As much as the narrator of the song wants to be like most people, he is an outsider and cannot feel a real connection with others.
