I feel the need to say this publicly. I am changing my position. I dont have facts to back up why I am changing my position. Just a gut feeling that my position is not the right position for lasting change and healing. To be clear Ive never advocated violence aginst women and do not feel like my former position did either. Nor do I condone the knee jerk over reactions that America has anytime a black man is accused of or does anything remotely unsavory. The punishments are often unfair and devastating and unlawful. But I have to say that I feel like this Ray Rice situation is not one of those moments. He should be banned from the NFL no team should want him or anyone of his elk on their squad. Furthermore so should every other player caught in this light. I still feel like there are some serious discussions that need to be had around domestic abuse, abuse in general, black celebrity and the law, and the idea that its never okay to hit a women but its fine for women to hit men that idea is bullshit and backwards because people will always defend themselves when threatened its almost like a set up. All in all Ray Rice is getting what he deserves and I hope the same punishment falls on his calibrators and enablers.
