I felt compelled to share this. People still have a lot of misconceptions about epilepsy, and many dont know what to do if they witness a seizure. I have heard horribly scary stories about parents putting mouth guards on their children to prevent seizure bites- THAT IS A SERIOUS CHOKING HAZARD. I have seen bruising from children being restrained during a seizure. The best advice is to do nothing other than make sure the person is safe from injury, and observe the seizure. If the person is known to have epilepsy seizures are expected, but if it lasts more than 3-5 minutes, call 911, and/or administer Diastat. If you dont know the person or their medical history call 911 immediately.
