I felt the need today to create these - what I call spiral developmental histories - even though they appear to be concentric arrangements. I think of them as spiral because in my mind there is no break between each layer but it was easy to create concentric shapes than a spiral given the inconsistent shapes and lengths of each piece of text I wanted to show to myself how my interest in my fields of interest - music, film, books and painting has developed and expanded over time. Beginning with a central pyramid of names (which indicates a true beginning point) I built around it a square and then a pentagram and larger and larger polygons to indicate a timeline of my expanding taste and discoveries. By and large the names are in chronological order but in a few instances they are not - and perhaps this doesnt matter all that much to anyone but me (and I am chronologically and order obsessed). These diagrams are a genuine revelation of my favourite authors, musicians, painters and film directors. Its not a complete picture but its better than a Facebook algorithm based on likes.
