I few days ago, while travelling on the motorway, I came across a road traffic accident. A family of three was riding on a motorbike. The husband, along with his wife in the backseat with an infant in her arms. He was overspeeding, and in his haste he hit a bump in the road. Long story short, the woman sustained a terrible head injury and literally had to be carried to the side of the road by about five people. She was dwindling on the brink of life and death, and oddly enough, none of the spectators were making an effort to save her. Maybe they didnt know what to do in that situation and were waiting for the ambulance. As we were crossing this unfortunate scene, my mom insisted that we should do something to help, maybe give the poor woman some CPR, try to stitch up her wounds, anything to resuscitate her with our limited resources. So we stopped. My mom rushed to her help. The womans forehead was gushing blood like a faucet, so much that it was pouring into her mouth, making it impossible for her to breathe. Her pulse was very feeble and she was bound to go to the other side at any minute. Her husband was clutching their child and was crying hysterically. An ordinary person would have panicked in such a situation, but only a doctor knows how to keep their cool and do what is required to save a persons life, even in the most limited resources. So my mom took a cloth, cleaned all the blood off the womans face, which enabled her to breathe more easily. She was much stable now. My mom instructed a bystander to put pressure on her wound as her husband helped her get into a rickshaw that had pulled by. She was taken to the hospital, and well, I hope she survived. Honestly, if I hadnt found my reason to become a doctor before, there it was. Right there. This is why I want to become a doctor. To save a life. To make such a huge difference that if we stop and think about it for a moment its actually quite overwhelming. That is literally the best gift you can give someone. To restore hope and faith into a person. Its just mindblowing. I guess Ill whine less now about all the nerve wracking stress we go through everyday of our lives, about all the effort we have to put in just to get our degreee. Because I have one bigass reason to motivate me now. And its pretty much all I need.
