I finally figured out a piece of family lore thats been bugging me for years. My mother, who had a bad habit of making up tall tales and calling them facts, once told me that I got to play with the first Kermit the Frog made by Jim Henson. She also told me they went to college together. Well the college part isnt true, but, today, I finally found the real link. My parents were good friends with Willard Scott and his business partner Ed Walker. These two guys were working at WRC-AM in Washington, D.C. at the same time that Jim Henson was working at WRC television where he had a childrens show that had a puppet that was the forerunner of Kermit. So... the story is now more plausible because I know my parents would visit the studio with Willard Scott and its very possible that I got to play with Jim Hensons puppet. Of no interest to anyone but family and maybe not even them! Its a genealogy thing. I love putting pieces of the puzzle and the stories together.. Does any of this sound familiar Rufus Fink? Youre probably the only one who can confirm or deny.
