I find it extremely sad when I try to interface with folks in the Permaculture and Ecobuilding communities and greed over takes offering the most opportunities for people to begin being more self sufficient. One of the most prevalent issues these days are financing opportunities for people to finance their share or lot in an Eco-Community. Banks are not willing to fund these projects and private financing can often have predatory interest rates. I was saddened today when I offered to carry financing on a local ecovillage page and in return instead of a dialogue ensuing I was chastised and banned without an opportunity to defend my point of view. Sadly until we change our attitudes as a society people will continue to create artificial scarcities and people will not actually get the opportunity to create a life instead of just struggling to survive. Even though it hurts I am glad that this happened because it reminds me that we have a long way to go and that I need to make sure that I continue to be a proponent for innovation and finding solutions rather than adding to the problems.
