I get a lot of computers that are virus infected. The user really has no clue as to how the viruses got onto the computer or how to really and truly keep the computer virus free. Here is one method I use and I’ve never had a virus. It’s available for FREE for Windows XP, Vista, and 7. Windows 8 is not recommended, but you can use Virtual Box, its free, however, youll need to obtain a copy of windows to install. Ill cover this in a later post. For Windows XP you simply go to Microsoft’s download site and download Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 from microsoft/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=4580 This link will give you the option of 32-bit or 64-bit. For Windows XP home or Professional, choose 32-bit. A Virtual PC copy of Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7 can be obtained from Microsoft’s site at microsoft/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=11575 After clicking the link, choose the version of Windows you would like to run. Keep in mind, if you’re running and older PC, running XP, you probably should stick with XP for this download. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the list and put a check in the Windows XP box. If you’re going to use Windows 7 or Vista, make sure you select all of the files. Pay attention to the number of parts. You will see, for Windows 7, you have the option of IE 8 or 9 with it. Only download the one with the newest version of Internet Explorer. These versions, however, are completely updateable, so if you download the wrong version of IE, you can always update it. Installation is pretty straight forward: The first file you downloaded, open it. It will walk you through the steps of installing Virtual PC. The second file, it the Windows file. When it open it, it will ask you where you want to “install” it to. If you’re using the first step, click Browse and just leave it as it is by click OK. Then click OK and it will finish copying. That’s it! You click on start and locate Virtual PC. It will boot up just like a PC would. Use this for your web browsing and downloading. If you get a virus, you can simply repeat the second step above replacing the infected Windows XP and it will not spread to the rest of your system. You should also install a strong, FREE andtivirus product. Why free? Because they are just as effective, most often more effective than the paid software from the likes of Norton or McAfee. The strongest I’ve come across is AVAST and AVG. AVG has slipped from being my favorite due to their constant nagging for you to buy their other products. I mean, yes, it’s free and it takes money to support, but their pop ups are huge and will interrupt anything you’re doing. AVAST can be obtained from avast/en-us/index And AVG from free.avg/us-en/homepage
