I get a lot of request for drills. As many of you know, I dont believe drills are truly effective unless theres a base of strength behind the movement pattern. You can look cute all you want going through comes or punching bags but thats not going to carryover to the field. I came up with this, its a little of both worlds, skill & strength. This movement will be called the truth teller, because your first time doing it will tell exactly what type of puncher you are. Most OLmen are shoulder punchers and you must engage the lats in order for this to be done properly. Follow the video for very clear instruction - a few KEY coaching points, the sled should be heavy enough where the force you create allows the sled to slide. Dont put on 10 plates and bench press the thing off you. There has to be an audible pop, the same pop you hear when you get a good punch on a defender. Your knuckles must rotate OUT in order for you to generate explosive force. If they rotates in, youve now entered the world of shoulder punching and we want you out of this world. Ill post a few more videos of different angles so you can get a good feel. If you have any questions, as usual, dont hesitate to ask. I will say dont ask how much weight should I use?... I dont know!!! I played with this and used two 45s and it was plenty but I could go up to 3/4 plates. Its not a show of strength, its about the snap and you feeling what a proper strike feels like.
