I got this observation/question from a friend in an e-mail: In the book BIG DATA by Mayer-Schonberger & Cukier today’s computer programs turn information into knowledge. Computers identify patterns such as two weeks after gun shows there follows a jump in violent crime. Interesting patterns are developed by PRISM, the NSA computer program. The overriding question is “Should any government be permitted to use computer analysis to observe and then quarantine people because they are likely to do something bad”? What do you think?
