I had a convo with a long-time Liverpool fan last night. I asked him why do Liverpool fans always jump on the chance to take jibes at Man Utd fans each time Man Utd lost or stumble in something. He said something like Man Utd fans deserve it, reason being that Man Utd dont deserve to be champions. I asked if that is due to the hard jealousy. He denied it. I explained that banters are and will always happen between rival supporters but should always be done in humble humour and not end in violence or hatred. He explained that many Liverpool fans hated Man Utd fans due to Man Utd fans brag about Man Utd success. I said well, success of their supported clubs do entitle the supporters to brag.Even Liverpool fans brag when they won UCL 2004/5 in Istanbul. It is all about bragging rights. But I redirect him to the main question, as to why Liverpool fans jump on the chance to take hard jibes at Man Utd fans each time Man Utd stumble, esp the recent 5-3 loss to Leicester City. He shrugged. He admitted eventually it is the jealousy and rivalry. So, I questioned him: Last time I checked, Liverpool had not won any major trophies recently despite having a good squad and talent. Recent major trophies were: FA Cup 2005/6 League Cup 2011/12 Charity Shield 2006 UCL 2004/5 BPL Champions - Not yet (should have won in BPL 2013/14 if Gerard had not slip, and Man Utd were totally out of their own skins led by that disastrous David Moyes) Now, despite having the better gelled, better well-organised team than Man Utd which is undergoing re-organisation which we all know, Liverpool had already lost 3 games now. This is the same squad which nearly won the title last seaon. So Liverpool fans out there, in the name of friendly banter and humble conversation, why take jibes at a proven champion, Man Utd, when Liverpool has yet to live up to its name in the past 20yrs, which is modern football. You guys should stop talking abt the 70s and 80s already. Back then, the EPL doesnt have much foreign imports. Now, almost all the BPL squad can afford to bring in a worthy Latin, African star player. Back then the EPL is like the Scottish league. Liverpool conquered coz they had the best English players in the country. But now is no longer possible, even Southampton can produce their own talents, which Liverpool themselves buy from. But I think it is inevitable that every other club and its supporters want to see Man Utd beaten. Hence, the acronym ABU (Anything But United). I guess it is the price which a champion like Man Utd has to pay for its success. Hahaha... #justsaying
