I had the most perfectly Edmonton multicultural moment at the Pride Parade this morning. Standing behind us in the crowd were two young Hutterite girls, from one of the colonies vending at the Farmers Market. The taller girl was dressed in traditional Hutterite clothes, with a long dark skirt and a black-and-white polka dot headscarf. But her face was painted with rainbow face paint. The first float came by - a Little Mermaid themed group of mostly Filipino drag queens, who rejoiced in the name, The Queens of Orient. While the speakers blasted, I want to be, part of your world, and the Filipino flags waved, the Hutterite girl behind me whipped out her smart phone and started taking pictures. Das ist schön, she said breathlessly. That is beautiful. And indeed, it was. Edmonton, I salute you, in all your crazy diversity and splendour. https://twitter/Paulatics/status/475340368414650369/photo/1
