I have been doing quite a lot of thinking on residential school issues and why they are so tough & burdensome for us survivors. Why is it such a struggle for us to get over it? First of all, its a very unique kind of childhood trauma we experienced. We werent traumatized just 1; 2 or 3 times a month. We were traumatized daily, constantly, day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year. We were traumatized when we were at our most vulnerable; when we were just babies as well as when we were most isolated & alone. When the trauma occurred there was no where for us to run too; there was no one we could turn to. Our parents, grandparents our aunts & uncles werent there to hear our cries, see our tears and hug us & tell us its going to be okay. We were so totally alone. And now 40-50 years later, its hard to speak after decades & decades of silence. I think its time..... time to find our strength & our voices.
