I have been having some serious memory loss lately. Ive never had the best memory but it got worse when I started chemo (commonly called chemo brain). I had chalked it up to that until the past week or so when my memory loss got severe and looked a lot like Alzheimers. I would drive to some errand and 30 minutes later had no memory of having been there. I dont remember at a later time, either. Its just gone - at least until someone tells me where I have been. I finally spoke to the oncologist about it and he believes it is from the radiation to the brain tumor. He said side effects like short-term memory loss dont usually show up until about six months after the radiation, which is exactly where I am right now. He said only time will tell if the effects are permanent or temporary. In the meantime, my notebook that I carry everywhere has become my constant friend. I am writing everything down so I can refer back to it later.
