I have been reading a lot of threats from Pokots countrywide Facebook page 1.Elders are to strip the DP Hon W.Rutto a title ALEM that they gave him last year 2.Pokots from Taty want to move to West pokot and become members of west pokot county etc etc My response 1.What is in a title when people are killed in the name of rustling? Francis Polisi Lotodo the former minister and king of the Pokots once told Rtd president moi What is in that cloth(ministerial flag) when his pokot people are suffering? The title his of no need to Rutto if people get killed in the name of cattle theft. A title from people who kill and rob serves no meaning It does not come with any pay and is of no significance to one from Nandi or any part of kenya other than the pokots themselves. A title from people who sleep in Silale caves or any other bush? A title from civilized organization is important like a honorary degree from a university is more important than ALEM from Tiaty. Take your title away and allow a peaceful coexistence with your neighbours 2.Seceding to west pokot from Baringo county is not possible.All pokots from tiaty can migrate back to westpokot where they came from and leave our land baringo county alone. My grandfather of Nyongi ageset once told me they used to trade with Turkana and pokots were not occupying Tiaty but tiaty was called Tulwop asis.Turkanas used to bring soda ash (magaat/Barian) to the Tugens from Lodwar and exchanged with millet or sorghum. The first cow in Tugen came from samburu where one was to take millet to samburu and goes to work for 40 suns(40days) as a herder in exchange of a heifer. Pokots migrated to tiaty from west occupying the trade routes cutting off the Turkana-tugen trade of soda ash/millet/sorghum and samburu trade of cows labour and food(millet) If pokot elites want to cause a secede to west pokot then migration to west pokot is only possible. Tiaty is in baringo is part of baringo and will remain in baringo. Otherwise let us remain as one county,we shun rustling and encourage peaceful coexistence with one another. Rustling becomes irrelevant if communities surrounding Tiaty and whose lands have been demarcated can practice simple sisal fencing,rear exotic animals which cannot run even from gunshots and grow crops like ndengu or any other short term crop.
