I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. These were the words of King David in Psalm 37:25. On this, my birthday, though I am not yet old (sometimes feel it!), yet this principle has rung true in my own life. God has been faithful to me! It is amazing how He has provided. As I try to think about all the ways that God has been faithful, I am overwhelmed at the depth of His mercy and grace. He has provided me with salvation, first and foremost. Though I am an unworthy sinner, yet He has loved me and given Himself for me. I could never deserve such love, nor earn such goodness. Yet, He continually works in and through my life and forgives all my sin. Moreover, He has laid up for me eternal life when this life has ended. He has provided for my needs, physical and spiritual. Life has borne out the truth that He daily supplies all my needs, whether it be through the indwelling presence of His Spirit to comfort, convict, and correct, or whether it be through the daily provision of bread. He has ministered to me those things which were necessary, even when I thought I did not know where the next meal would come from or how I would take care of my obligations. He has still been faithful. He has provided me with a wonderful family and friends. I am surrounded by people on all sides who love and support me, even though I do not always take the time to acknowledge each of them. He has given even more grace to me through these companions, for they helped me up when I had fallen, held my hand when I was afraid, prayed for me when I was in need, and strengthened my resolve when I felt like giving up. I could go on and on. Unlike King David, I am not old. Not yet! But I have seen enough of life to know that what He said is already true in my own life, and it is true in your lives as well. There are times when we do not see what God is doing, or how He is providing. There are even times when we feel that we will surely faint under the weight of the current struggle, or be famished for lack of provision. But the ones who have trusted Christ alone for righteousness will have every need supplied. This is the promise of God. And He has promised that He will work all things together for our good. Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me. BC
