I have friends who have lost their jobs. Thats a scary place to be. Searching, being rejected, and searching again, all day and night for the next place of employment can be extremely stressful. Add to that people asking you to do what you used to do for a living as a favor. If you value their expertise, as you must because you are asking them to use it, then dont ask for a free ride. It is one more ding to their self-worth. If they volunteer to help you, be thankful. If they wont take money, exchange a favor in return. And by the way, listening is a gift. No one wants to be Debbie Downer, but sometimes shit happens and you need to talk about it. Let them talk, because next time it might be you in need of an ear. Be a friend, pour a cup of coffee and make that call. Your friend doesnt have the plague, they just dont have a job.
